Rule of Rose is a psychological horror game released for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. Set in 1930s England, the game follows a young woman named Jennifer, who becomes trapped in a twisted, surreal world controlled by a group of sadistic orphans known as the Red Crayon Aristocrats. The story begins when Jennifer boards a mysterious bus and finds herself at an abandoned orphanage and later aboard a derelict airship. As she navigates these eerie locations, Jennifer is forced to participate in disturbing rituals and confront traumatic memories from her past. The children torment her and demand "gifts," using these as a way to assert power over her and create a nightmarish social hierarchy.

A central element of the game is Jennifer's bond with a stray dog named Brown, who helps her find items and provides companionship in the otherwise hostile environment. As the narrative unfolds, the line between memory and reality blurs, revealing dark truths about Jennifer's childhood, grief, and the psychological scars she carries. "Rule of Rose" is known for its haunting atmosphere, emotional depth, and controversial themes surrounding childhood trauma, abuse, and innocence lost.

Despite mixed reviews due to clunky combat mechanics, it has gained a cult following for its storytelling, music, and artistic direction.
